Introduction

 

Increasing complexities of modern life have placed new responsibilities on youngsters. They need skills and competencies which were not required in the relatively simple society of yesteryear. The skills and competencies they need relates to the mastering of information available and skills of seeking out adequate information needed to progress in their chosen careers. Developing these skills among students require new capabilities among teachers so that they may provide guidance and counseling to them. Some students may however need greater sport which demands that. Guidance and counseling service are not any optional sport they are part and parcel of overall education process

 

Nature of Guidance

           

Guidance covers the whole process of education with starts from the birth of the child. As the individuals need help throughout their lives it is not wrong to say that guidance is needed from cradle to grave.

“Guidance is a process of dynamic interpersonal relationship designed to influence the attitude and subsequent behavior of the person”

 

 

Guidance & Counselling

 

Counseling represents only one of the services to be found in guidance programme whereas guidance touches all aspects of life and it tries to help the individuals in solving problems. The teem counseling covers a vide area of procedures, advice giving, psychoanalysis

a)      To help them understand themselves by knowing more about their abilities ,aptitudes , interests and limitations

b)      To get along better with others people and understand the whole world in which they live

c)      To get the most out of school by gaining information regarding career as subjects.

d)      In recognizing gifted and slow learners and students having special needs and helping them to develop proper attitude and make maximum use of their potential ability

 

 

 

AID TO THE TEACHER

 

1)      Guidance offers opportunities to increase teacher’ understanding of their students through in-service education programmes carried on by the guidance person

2)      Data of students special interests, capabilities and past experiences are provided on the cumulative record by the guidance faculty. Knowledge about the student’s physical condition medical history, family back ground, scholastic record scores on standardized tests etc. help the teacher to provide write instruction to the student

 

3)      beneficial to the parents

to give clearer perception of the child’s intelligence , abilities, interests and potentialities the programme helps the parent know understand and accept the child as he/she is.

 

 

ROLE OF GUIDANCE PERSONNEL

 

One of the deep underlying reasons for adequate and well trained personal in guidance is basically the dependence of the young upon the adult

INTRODUCTION:

We need to discuss threadbare the nitty-gritty of the school Guidance Program and a workable plan of action is to be arrived at for each academic session. There are questions of time, resources, and finance , which require your attention. To deal with all theses issues you require a forum . Hence Vidyalaya Guidance Committee (VGC) is to be constituted.

The Task of the Vidyalaya Guidance Committee:

 

1)      To plan and execute the Guidance programme in the Vidyalaya.

2)      To co-ordinate the activities of the Guidance programme.

3)      To make use of local expertise in the field of Guidance and       

Counselling.

4)      To organize PTA meetings –to highlight the benefits of Guidance and Counselling and encourage them – both parents and students-to avail this service at school.

5)      To develop contact with Lions club, Rotary club and other voluntary agencies to get assistance in organizing and conducting talks, seminars, exhibitions etc.

6)      To have contact with Vocational Guidance cells, Employment agencies , recruitment agencies and to organize visits to work places.
